Malaga Airport

Malaga Airport is undergoing the most extensive transformation in its history.  This construction work will provide a modern arrival point for  your Flight to Spain and the Costa del Sol. The airport  will have a new passenger terminal, car parks and a second runway which will give the airport the capability of handling more than 20 million passengers per year. Work is due to be completed in 2010 but until then the time taken to get into and exit from the airport is extended considerably. The car parking is restricted and for those arriving the pick up points outside the terminal are particularly difficult. Please leave plenty of time to park if going for a flight and ensure that if you are being collected you have agreed a suitable meeting point as the person meeting you may not be able to park. Malaga Airport advice is to get to the Airport at least an hour and a half before domestic flights and two hours before international flights. Jet2.com has added flights to Malaga from Newcastle following the anouncement that bmibaby was stopping its Malaga flights from Durham Airport. Jet2.com is also starting a Malaga service from Belfast International Airport, these flights will start on April 30th and operate until October 28th, 3 times per week with a 4th flight at peak times.

Valencia Airport

Valencia Airport has also just completed a major refurbishment to increase its capacity for the large number of visitors to the Valencia and Costa Blanca area. Easyjet have increased their flight services to Valencia. Ryanair have reduced its services and now only operate a limited service to Stansted from 7th Nov 08

Clickair the new Spanish Airline which is a subsidiary of Iberia has started flying from Valancia to London Heathrow at very attractive fares. This is the first low cost airline to operate into Heathrow, The main base for clickair is Barcelona and their routes can be seen on www.clickair.com

Jerez Airport

Jerez Airport serving Cadiz and the Costa de la Luz is also to double its capacity and will have a new passenger terminal by September 2007.  By now the aircraft parking area should have been increased by 47,000 square meters which will allow increased flight operations by Germanwings, Arkefly, Star Airlines, Swiss International, Luxair and Ryanair.  Jerez Airport is also worth considering as an alternative airport  to Malaga for those visiting the Costa del Sol if you intend hiring your own transport.                                                                                                                                    Further Jerez Airport info. including live flight arrivals at www.costadelsolweb.com

Monarch Airlines have started a Manchester to Jerez route with four flights per week. The growing popularity of the Costa de la Luz has also prompted the Scandinvian branch of My Travel to start a weekly service from Stockholm to Jerez in the spring and another from Copenhagen in the summer.

Estepona & San Pedro de Alcantara

For those traveling to the south of Spain you should be aware that at present the traffic in each direction through San Pedro de Alcantara can be very slow at times.  Initial work has started on at tunnel to remove this problem.   However this work will take some time to complete and in the meantime will probably lead to further increased delays.  If you are traveling to or from Estepona or beyond you may be better using the motorway.
